Dear parents and caregivers,
I hope you and your families are well. Many are wondering how the upcoming soccer season will be impacted by coronavirus, and if registration will remain open. Let me address those concerns.
Registration will remain open past the March 31 deadline and until further notice.
Season Start Dates
The season for U13, U15, and U19 age divisions was originally scheduled to start during the first week of May. At this time, it is unclear if we will be able to maintain that start date (more on that below).
The season for U5, U7, U9 and U11 age divisions is scheduled to start in the last week of July. At this time, we don't anticipate any issues with starting the younger group's season as planned, but we will continue to monitor the situation throughout the summer.
How will the U13, U15 and U19 season be impacted?
As you know, schools are closed through April 13th, which is also when the governor's stay home / stay safe order is to set to expire. However, Governor Whitmer has recently indicated that schools may remain closed end of the school year, though there has not yet been an official announcement.
Should schools remain closed and the governor's stay home/stay safe order extends into May or beyond, we may have to delay the season for the older age groups (U13, U15 and U19). A delayed season might also mean a shortened season for those age groups due to field availability. With regards to fields, the CCSA plans to rent the Houghton H.S. and Finlandia's McAfee fields again this year. Those fields are normally only available during first part of the summer, after which they are used for other activities. I have inquired about the last possible date we could use each of those fields and am waiting to hear back. Should we have a shortened season, the board will consider a partial refund of registration fees.
Of course, if the governor's order extends into the summer (fingers crossed it will not) we may need to consider the possibility of canceling the season and refunding registration fees. I am hopeful it won't come to that.
Stay safe and healthy.
